Last year’s seed collection event was such a pleasure we decided to repeat it. You and your guests are invited to join a prairie hike and volunteer to collect native seeds for the Three Rivers Park District.  Help the Park District’s ongoing work to propagate and manage over 1200 acres of restored prairie. Learn about prairies and how to identify many plants.

If this date is not possible for you, please know there are many other dates available to help the Park District on your own. Go to  and click on “Find a seed collecting event.”

The Park staff provides training and seed collection bags at the start of each session, then the group drives or hikes to a remote area of the park to gather seeds. The seeds are donated to the Park. Collecting sessions are scheduled for 3 hours but our group is welcome to commit to just 2 hours. Then we’ll break for a bag lunch at the park center where there are restrooms and water, and optional sketching time if you want.

Dress for the weather. Bring your lunch and something to drink; sketching materials optional.

Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve is approximately 15 miles south of the intersection of I-35 & I-494 in Bloomington.

NOTE: Driving directions will be at the bottom of e-mailed confirmation that we'll send when you register.
