ABOUT THE GREAT RIVER CHAPTER

Our Mission​

To create public awareness and appreciation for historical and contemporary botanical art in our community.

 

To educate the public in regional ecology, plant diversity, and preservation of plant species.

 

To introduce the public to the beauty and usefulness of botanical art through exhibitions

and provide a forum for artists to meet, share ideas and learn from one another.

Great River Chapter (GRC)

We are a non-profit organization incorporated in Minnesota and serving the Upper Midwest region.

It is a regional chapter of the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA).

​

The Chapter holds botanical art exhibitions that are open to all members, as well as opportunities to learn about art,

botany and the natural world, open studio sessions, and provide opportunities to socialize with other members.

​

There are over 80 members, primarily from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and the Dakotas, coming from a variety of backgrounds.

We welcome new members with an interest in our goals.

The Great River Chapter was formed in 2002 under the leadership of Marilyn Garber, founder and director of the Minnesota School of Botanical Art (MSBA). She called an initial meeting in November, 2002, where the chapter was formed, officers chosen, and a goal was adopted to organize the ASBA annual conference in Minneapolis in 2005.

The first meeting of the Chapter included 23 students of the MSBA and was held on February 22, 2003.
