Drawing Basics in Graphite (Paper and Pencil)

I love to draw in graphite on paper and hope you do too!

Drawing  and describing botanical subject is fundamental to creating a successful painting and is often overlooked and underrated; an inaccurate drawing can never be the basis of a good botanical painting or illustration.

Drawing also goes hand-in-hand with observation and understanding the structure of the plant.

I love to sketch and render a flower or other botanical subject as three-dimensionally as possible, working on volume and capturing the movement and essence of the plant.
